What's a Schocula you ask?

Well, a customer of ours, Tony Schoch, builds a lot of banners with our 200 Denier Nylon. Any of you that have used this fabric know that it frays when it is cold cut with a scissor - sometimes making it a mess to deal with when sewing. Tony does a lot of applique by stacking the fabrics, sewing, then relief cutting (with a hot knife). He simply sews the layers with a straight stich or small zig zag, then slides this tool between the layers and uses it in conjunction with a pointed tip hot knife or soldering iron. If you look closely at the Schocula you will notice a small dimple - this dimple holds your pointed hot tool. With a little practice, you can make all your relief cut this way. After the cut, Tony follows through with another zig-zag (wider this time) or satin stitch. It results in a strong, no fray edge hidden on both sides by a wide zigzag.
