I have sent my wife to Las Vegas for four days and my entire house has been taken over by kite making and other kite stuff. _________________ Ron

It was a busy weekend. Around 12 hours of cutting skins on Saturday and 14 more putting them back together on Sunday. Most of the skins are now assembled, just waiting for the black to arrive from Steve. I will work on the edge binding while I wait.

Well, I am out of things to do while I wait for my fabric order. All the edge binding is done and the ribs are prepped with reinforcements and Screening. All the parts are lined up and waiting for final assembly just as soon as I complete the skins with the black strips and circle.
I should have placed my order sooner but I really thought I had a bunch of .75 oz black on hand. When I pulled it out of the box, it turned out to be a dark purple. Not what I had in mind.
I have a 100' banner tail from DGomberg with colors to match this kite but maybe I will use my wait time to make some tube tails too...

Well, I got crackin'!
The first 8 pieces of the two tube tails are cut, only 104 to go...
Back when Steve had the porous red Polymax marked way down I bought out all he had left. So depending on how the cutting goes, I expect these two tube tails to be almost all red. I have around 40 yards in several rolls so there could be some waste at roll ends. I will cut in some stripes somewhere if it starts to come up on the short side.
I am using the sizes suggested by Roger, Stringystuff, back in this post on page 44. _________________ .

WARNING!! Potential hi-jack
Your link led me to notice that Roger never did post pics of the "new" tails in his tails album. A little observatrion and searching shows he hasn't edited his albums since June nor has he posted here! I hope everything is ok with him and his; I really enjoyed reports on his experimenting, testing, inovations, etc. _________________ John |

It was another busy weekend. This time it was the two tube tails.
All the parts were cut earlier in the week and assembled into four long strips after work on Thursday and Friday. Here they are ready to stitch the sides.
The fabric feed was better when I layed it out this way on the tables. The loose accordian folds feed smoothly without catching.
Starting to stitch the second side. The bulldog paperclip is securing a length of dacron line inside that will help in turning it right side out later. The clip keeps the line from wandering toward the needle.
Here is the first one turned right side out.
Here it is partly inflated by a box fan way out in the mud room.
I reinforced the leading edge with dacron and added the 3/4" Webbing bridle tabs.
The trailing edge also got dacron and a Webbing loop. The loop is to give a place to attach a sacrificial fray strip at the end of the tail. I may hot cut a few holes in the dacron to add a line for pulling the end closed. Or maybe velcro. See how it flies with nothing there first.
