Gary, in your plan, you recommend the Prospar 19 and 16 for the frame. Trouble is, they are no longer available. Can you make an alternative recomendation?

I get a lot of people emailing me with this question and I make my own suggestion, but I'd like to hear it from the horses... eh um kitebuilders mouth.

Thanks....

Did Gary give you an answer on this Steve? I'm thinking of building a rok using this (Gary's) plan.

Thanks,
Mark.

Premier Kites usese Skyshark P300's in their 78" (6' 6") rokkakus.

They also use Solid Graphite Rod for the furreles.

I have not broken a frame in one and I use them to battle with, so I am quite hard on them......

Yes the Carbon tubes are more expensive than the pultruede fiberglass, but they do make the kite quite a bit lighter, so it will fly in less wind.

I have gone to useing SkyShark Px00 series tubes for 90% of my kite building needs as IMHO they are an outstanding product and they all take an 0.240 internanl furrle, so I only have to have one size on hand....

If you want to use Fiberglass you could use the RET505 tube from THIS PAGE of Steve's catalog, with the RET414 tube as an internal furrele as the RET505 has an ID of 0.418" which is a 0.004 clearace. It is not much and I have had to sand the OD of the RET414 to make it fit as there was some wide tollarance in the factory the day my tubes were made........

Oh...

IIRC, Charlie Dunton told me that trick to use the 505 for the vertical spar, the 414 for the spreaders, and use the parts you cut off the 414 for the furrle, but the furrles you have in the catalog are probally a better solution as there would be more clearacne to get them in..........

You guys are right.... I have been slacking!!!!!

I will be attending the Maryland Kite Socitey's workshop on President's Day Weekend.

I plan on cutting out some sails for some Indoor Tirips kites (quad line)

I aslo want to try to learn some direct application of color techniquies from Susan Lennon, one of the instructors at the workshop.

It should be a good time!!!!

I NEED to make some kites to give away to the Sharone Giant Kites Club members that are comming to be in the Cherry Blossom festival in April.....
