I am posting this for Cliff and Gerry. For their contact info, PM me and I will send it.
30 June 2008
Fellow Kiters,
We are looking for your help.
On 12 June 2008 we checked an over size bag of kites with Northwest Airlines that did not leave the terminal. Our bag of kites and miscellaneous equipment were stolen before they left Seattle. We attended the FANO festival without kites. Bummer !!
The airline determined the bag did not leave Seattle. So, out there somewhere are our kites. The bag was a black, canvas transport case for golf equipment. We are assuming the thief thought they were stealing golf clubs.
We are asking you to be on the look out for our kites and three Sam Huston line winders. Please keep a watch out on EBay, in thrift stores and on flying fields. Our last name “Pennell” and a serial number appear on the back of the kites usually at the bottom somewhere on the edge. Many of the kites will have our small logo Eddy kite which is black or white with a small ribbon tail. This logo is located on the front of the kite in the lower right hand corner. All kites which are missing were handcrafted by us (no commercial kites).
Attached you will find pictures of the missing kites, line art, and three Penguin banners. If you see any of these items out there in the world, please contact us immediately. We are keeping our fingers crossed that somewhere they will show up.
We would like to thank you in advance for any help you can give us in recovering these stolen items.
Cliff & Gerry Pennell
Thanks

Rob,
Please tell Cliff and Gerry HELLO from Patrick And Tammy Gibble.....Sorry to hear about this tragedy!
For those of you who do not know the Pennell's ... They are GREAT people and make some beautiful kites. I'm sure they are heartbroken to lose some of their beautiful work!
Good luck Cliff and Gerry......
They will probably end up on Ebay or Craigslist......MAYBE someone will spot them flying on the beach in the Northwest!

The best view of the logo is on the blue woven hata below the banner picture the little black diamond kite on the border. _________________ Robkite

| Nice to see people care. A lot of reaction on all the forums and people watching on different continents. With any luck they will find the kites! |

ROB,
Do you know if anyone has posted a notice on the local Craigslist. Probably a good idea to post on Seattle and Portland sites....
Just a thought. Also, have the Pennell's thought about a "no questions asked" return or maybe a small reward?
Just a thought...or two.

Still watching for them.
Contacted the terminal manager and our rep at the airline and got them to do a sweep at SEA airport. No such luck.
Checking Craigslist everyday too. _________________ (A few sticks short of a full frame.)

Sorry to hear of this loss of kites. I know how I would field losing only 1 kite I made.
There are some beautiful kites and hundreds of hours of work there.
Have you posed on GWTW and the AKA forums? If not do so.
I will say a pray to St. Anthony for you.....he always helps me to find lost items.

If it hasn't already been mentioned or done yet, try contacting the Seattle area kite stores "Goodwinds, etc.." and tell them to keep an eye out for suspicious people asking questions about kites they supposedly inherited, found, etc..., and want to know what they are and what they're worth. Then they sell them on e-bay, or to other kiters they see flying in the parks or on the beaches. With WSIKF coming up next month in Long Beach, WA, I would spread the word for everyone to keep an eye peeled for them. _________________ Troy Gunn - Founding member of TKO Sport Kite Team

Thanks guys...I have cross posted this on GWTW, Kitelife, and the REV forums. I know others have taken it to forums across the water and in different areas. If you are a member of another forum or group....PLEASE post a link to this article. The Pennell's are great people and they would definitely help us out if we needed it!!!!
I also posted on Craigslist for Seattle and Portland...I think they have expired. I will try to repost. If anyone is in the Portland area..they might try to hit Craigslist with a post.
Great people fly kites!!!

I found a Pennell kite on the Washington coast on March 27, 2010. However, it does not match the kites in the photographs. _________________ Jim |
