I also want to thank Bill for this project. There's a lot of useful things I learned that will work on other projects, and I'm so excited to have a fled now that I probably wouldn't have tackled on my own.
Thank you!!!!

So I finally finished this fine project, and I find the need to store and carry my new fled. I am not certain how to go about making a bag for this thing. Do I break the whole thing down into its individual rods and make a short bag, or do I leave the vertical spars in the fabric and make a long bag? What are your thoughts on this. Sorry if this has been answered already, I am typing this on my blackberry, so even 8 pages is a lot to read thru. _________________ Jesse

Whether or not to break down the longerons depends on how much space you have to transport the thing.
I just make long bags and leave the longerons intact; to the point that I glue the Ferrels in on the longerons. _________________ Simon

My plan is to make a long bag and leave the longerons in, but I can take it apart, if I need it smaller, and fold the bag over in that case.

kind crappy pics but better than none, plus it was almost dark....
EDIT: Also, I learned that I should not read my pitbull plans, and then work on my fled. This lead to me edge binding with grosgrain instead of RSN....by the time i went back to the fled plan, i had edge bound most of my kite. It flys OK, just a lil' heavier than it needed to be _________________ Jesse

Looks good!!
I like your choice of flying location.. it's a good thing there are no large towers with lots of lines to get caught in .. LOL _________________ Bill Wilson

OK OK my choice of testing grounds was pooor but when you live in a small town and have very few places to even put something in the air, you cant be too picky.....besides it is deceptive....i am way far away from the tower.... _________________ Jesse

Thanks all for the kind words, I enjoyed presenting this workshop. I have learned a lot, hopefully I will be able to host another project again soon.
Cheers,

Hey Guys, I would also like to give Bill a big Thank You..job well done. Great project; I received many phone calls from people following this build.
Just a reminder, take a look at the first sticky thread, it should be a collection of photos.... all the completed Fleds. Couple of good ones already there.! _________________ Measure once, buy twice!

My Fled is done now - still waiting for kit to arrive, so I used some Carbon longerons. The spreader is made from bamboo after I broke some low quality Carbon spars I had when tensioning it. Its a bit flexible and I am not sure how well the bamboo spreader is balanced.
Tomorrow I will try to fly it anyhow - I will use 2 long tails on it, so its going to look a bit different. _________________ You know me. |
