Traditional Kites

Traditional eastern kites are based on designs indigenous to the region they represent, including countries such as Bali, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, and Thailand. Bamboo, bark, and handmade papers are examples of materials which might be used. Traditional western kites should be made using designs that might have been found before 1950. These traditional kites are generally from North and South America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Traditional kites may be crafted from modern materials, but, if all other factors are equal, traditional kites crafted from traditional materials will generally receive higher scores unless the use of modern materials creates substantial improvements to the traditional design.
